Product Overview

Pedigree:
Casanova di Neri was stablished in 1971 when Giovanni Neri acquired a large estate in Montalcino with the goal of searching for optimal land for the production of high quality grapes. In 1991 his son Giacomo took over direction of the estate and winemaking and continues the profound commitment and respect for the land as practiced by his father. The estate comprises of 500 Ha; 7 vineyards making up 63 Ha, 29 Ha of olives and the rest, open space. Montalcino is located south of Sienna in Tuscany and offers a diversity of soils and microclimates. The Sant'Antimo DOC was created in Montalcino in 1996 to give producers more options for their Super Tuscan wines, (red wines made from the classic Italian grape varieties as well as international varieties.) Until the advent of the DOC, these wines had to be labeled as vino di tavola or table wine.

Winemaking: Generally, 2019 is a vintage with lovely poise and balance. Grapes are harvested by hand. This wine is mainly 80% Sangiovese with small amounts of Colorino, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Bunches are selected manually before destemming. Individual grapes are selected with the aid of an optical sensor. Spontaneous fermentation without the addition of yeasts follows. Extraction is obtained by careful punch downs. Everything takes place in conical vats at controlled temperature for 18 days.

Tasting Notes:
Color: Deep ruby. Bright and lively.
Nose: The nose shows dark red berry fruits, including raspberries and black cherries, cloaked in a whiff of brioche.
Palate: The palate impression is informed by the nose and is satisfyingly rich, yet retains the Sangiovese elegance. Well resolved tannins provide a balancing grip in harmony with a fine measure of minerality. The wine has ample body with a persistent, complex finish. It drinks beautifully now but will age well over the next 4 to 5 years.
Alcohol is 13.5%. Serving Temperature: 62° F - 65° F
